Questions and Answers

If you get your school’s approval, you can take part in a study programme abroad. If not, you’ll have to repeat the year.

  • An open mind
  • Not having any preconceptions or prejudices
  • Accepting differences
  • Being curious
  • Communicating and getting involved
  • Reaching out to others rather than waiting for them to come to you
  • Cultivate a sense of humour and the ability to laugh at yourself

There is no typical family profile. Every family is unique and reflects the society and way of life of the country you have chosen. The family that takes you in may or may not have children; they may be a blended family or a single-parent family, a single person whose children no longer live at home, retired people or younger people. It is not the family’s composition that matters, but their willingness and motivation to share their culture with you.

The local coordinator visits the families’ homes to ensure they can offer the participant a balanced and welcoming environment.

The process of finding host families is a lengthy one that can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months, particularly in the case of volunteer families (United States, Spain, the Netherlands, the Nordic countries, etc.). Choosing to host a student is a significant commitment that should not be taken lightly, and in most cases, a family will take a long time to consider their decision before committing. We also have to work around their schedules and commitments. Administrative formalities then need to be completed, which also takes time.

You therefore need to be patient. But whether you host your family a few months or just a few days before your departure, we can assure you that this will in no way affect the quality of your hospitality or the relationship you’ll be able to build with them. Many of our students who hosted their families at short notice can attest to this.

Why study abroad?

A study programme abroad is much more than just an opportunity to improve your language skills. It is an immersive experience that pushes you to step outside your comfort zone, discover another culture and adapt to a new academic and family environment.

The skills you develop during this adventure will be invaluable for your future studies and career. A school, university or employer will recognise your independence, your ability to adapt, your curiosity and your openness to the world.

The main benefits

  • Practising a language on a daily basis and becoming more fluent;
  • Discover a new culture from the inside;
  • Develop your independence and adaptability;
  • Get to know yourself better and build your self-confidence;
  • Gain maturity and become more open-minded;
  • Form lasting friendships with young people from all over the world.

All these benefits will enrich your personal and academic journey, whilst giving you a head start for the future.

The local partner: a key player in your stay

At each destination, we work with an experienced local partner, who plays a vital role in ensuring the programme runs smoothly. Depending on the package chosen, they are involved in selecting the school and host family, as well as in the practical organisation of the stay.

Based locally, they support the student at every stage, answer their questions and ensure that their integration goes as smoothly as possible. Throughout the programme, they act as a key point of contact for the student, their host family and the school, and can intervene quickly should any difficulties arise.
